"A fast and furious spectacular show with added flashes, bangs and pyrotechnics"
THE ARGUS, BRIGHTON

A Message to Archive Project Volunteers:

"Dear all wonderful volunteers, dormant, active and potential

Thought I would give you a quick update on how we are getting on and whats coming up :0

Firstly you may have noticed a calm ascend over John St? This because Bianco and Open House – our 2 touring shows have now headed off on tour. Poor Bianco people getting stuck for days literally and metaphorically on the A30 tarmac leading to the ferry port. So what this means is less fuss and bother and bustle and hustle. We have more office space, a clean kitchen will resume and the noise and disturbance to our work will lessen.

We are beginning to get our heads around the design and concept of the exhibition – which will run throughout December in 4 Elms. Our fab volunteer Catrin who some of you may know is helping steer the manage this work. We have arranged what will no doubt be a fun training day with Cardiff Story Museum Lucie Connors (who did the Oral History training). We will be taking along our collection of ‘Artefacts’ and will learn how to put a storyline to these and how we might want to create exhibition themes around what we have. Our artefact collection includes props, costumes, merchandising items (T shirts, knickers, branded items), awards, models and some things still to be discovered!

Last week we received the skeleton of our new website. Toby is getting to know his way around and trialling uploading things so we will be ready at the end of July to start putting stuff on or maybe its ‘in’. This work can be done remotely if this is preferred by people and isn’t rocket science – downsizing images, copy and pasting, attaching links etc. If anyone fancies getting involved in this help would be gratefully received.  People with a bit of IT knowhow could also give us some feedback on how it works and navigates – an outside eye is always good.

We still have some filing, scanning and digitising of images and paper to do which can be dipped in and out of by people with just a bit of time on their hands. Thank you to all the people who have scanned and stuffed photos into those little sleeves. The task is nigh on done!

We are looking for a couple of people to log info onto a spreadsheet from Ali’s diaries. They are work diaries! And the info relates to all the community work we did over an approx. 8 year period. As well as all the touring shows we did, we frequently were involved in community involvement projects in South Wales and further afield, and ran an agency for professional performer bookings. A knowledge of Ali’s shorthand would be helpful, but training will be given J

Oral Histories are going extremely well, though the task is a big one and there are many more to do. There are a lot to do in Bristol and Bath so if someone fancies organising a day out to do a bunch let me know. We could maybe organise a group picnic?? A huge thank you to Jade DQ who has been a warrior of summary writing and to the people (Jo, Lauren, Sophie) doing it remotely. If any of you would like to have a go at this in your home and own time please let me know and we can organise giving you the audio files to work on. There are some very amusing stories emerging which could offer a nice alternative to Radio 4’s ‘Listening Project’

Finally Toby & I are having a go at splitting our days so we are working Mondays together, I work Tuesdays and Toby works Wednesdays. We are hoping that Wednesdays will be digital work primarily – so putting info onto that website. We are really sorry that we are still struggling to provide opportunities at the weekends but we have another 6 group reminiscing sessions to organise yet and these will most likely be weekends or evenings so please keep in the loop!!

Thanks for your time and help and interest and hope to see you all soon"

Lizx
